Description |
English: An incomplete Roman copper-alloy Colchester derivative, rear hook brooch, dating to AD 43 - 65. The wings, most of the spring pin and upper bow remain, the lower bow and catchplate and some of the pin are missing. The hollow cylindrcal wings are undecorated and house the spring pin. Centrally at the top of the wings is a rear facing hook, supporting the spring pin. Opposing this is the bow head is hump-like, and angular (comma shaped) in profile and D-shaped in cross section. The bow is decorated with a central longitudinal recess containing a pair of parallel wavy ridges and flanked by longitudinal ridges and terminates in an old break. Length: 28 mm |
