Gloves of the kind here mentioned areeasily slipped on and off, and they are very warm and comfort-ing on a really cold day. Should a brisk bit of sport occurthey are for the time best discarded, as one can do little morethan row or pole the punt in them. Referring to the question of long boots, these may beeither of leather or rubber. The leather boots are, withoutdoubt, the best. They last longer and stand rough usagebetter. Proper leather punting boots should be made thin upthe legs, the foot portion stouter. Do not have your leatherpunting boots lined with anything. Lining in them soon tearsand becomes a bother. Rubber boots do not wearso long as leather ones, owing to the rough work they are calledupon to do when punting ; but they answer fairly well for thosepersons who do not do a lot of shooting in them. As to wear-ing rubber boots affecting ones system, we have not. personallyfound this to be correct. From their insulating qualities, nodoubt, they would prove noticeably injurious to some folks, ifworn every day for months, at all times and everywhere ; butwhen only worn occasionally, and when the wearer is seatedmost of the time, we think that for punting rubber boots canhardly be condemned on this account. For both rubber andleather thigh boots a belt round the waist is indispensable, towhich suspenders may be attached to keep the thigh partof the boots up. Be sure to have your boots a comfortable fitfor your feet, when your stockings are on. Boots too largeor too small are a discomfort to the wearer,
