f struc-ture with reinforced concrete columns and slabs.The ground floor is occupied by the business officesof the Canada Life Assurance Company, the upperfloors being subdivided for private offices. Theentrance hall is panelled in Missisquoi marble withmarble mosaic covering the entire ground floor. Thewalls of the business office are panelled with Africanmahogany, the ceiling beams and cornice beingrichly modelled in plaster. The front of the build-ing is finished in English semi-glazed terra cotta. andwas one of the first high buildings to be erected onSparks street. One is led to believe that the new impetus tobuilding will bring about a wholesome atmosphereconducive to an artistic centre. It is already notice-able in the business sections, the hotel and apartmentdistricts and throughout the home territory. Withthe proper .selection of a design for the new depart-mental buildings, Ottawa will undoubtedly becomeone of the most beautiful capital cities of the world. 174 CONSTRUCTION
