Title
Copper alloy dragonesque brooch
Description
English: A copper alloy and enamelled dragonesque brooch, dating from the first or second centuries AD. The brooch consists of a S shaped plate which has been slightly bent; the body of the plate has two central circular cells, one within the other and separated by a rib. Within the inner cell are traces of white enamel; the outer cell is empty. Each terminal is decorated with circular cells of enamelling; one being a simple cell of red enamel, the other similar to the body cell in that it consists of a cell within a cell. The inner cell is filled with white enamel whilst the outer is filled with red enamel. The pin is missing. However, there is some wear on the neck of the brooch, indicating where the pin was originally looped. The brooch measures 49mm in length and 22mm in width.
