copper alloy possible post medieval purse bar or buckle plate |
||
Description |
English: Copper alloy object possibly from a pendent frame of a purse dating 1450 to 1550 AD. The purse bar is decorated on the outer side with the remains of broken projections/clasps at either end. The object is elongated and broadly rectangular in shape, and L-shaped in cross section. The frame has a a gentle concave curve on its outer surface. The decoration appears to have been filled with enamel and it is possible that the artefact is from an earlier period. Similar on the database to HAMP-1A1F81, HAMP-F065A6 and WILT-91CC74. Such frames are known from Type A1 purses (according to the London Museum Catalogue): the same decorative treatment can be seen on purse elements illustrated in Read (2001, 130, 131; refs. 905, 910).Length 41mm, width 8mm. |
