Copper alloy seal matrix
Description
English: Medieval Seal matrix, hexagonally facetted conical handle, each facet decorated with groove at base conjoined to form a hexagon, and with vertical line ending in a punched dot below triple-collared pierced quatrefoil terminal, a small incised six-armed star indicates orientation of top of seal. Circular, 19 mm. Bearded male bust facing to dexter and wearing a headdress with a large bow tied at the back of his head, below which is a curled lion couchant. In font of the heads of both man and lion is a triple-headed thistle or teazel. IE SVI SEL DE TOVR LEL (I am the seal of a loyal deed). The top of the man’s head interrupts and begins the inscription.
