NEW YORK, AUG. 28, 1913. THE CONDITION OF BUSINESS. Conditions have improved very materiallyNew York in the past week. A large number of buyers have been in the market, and whiletheir purchases as a rule, were not large, there is anevidence of returning confidence. Mail orders werenumerous and of fair volume. The men on the roadare beginning to send in good business, although, asusual in August, they find many buyers away. Nearly every visitor interviewed holds the opinionthat there is going to be a big business. With few ex-ceptions they state that conditions are favorable in everyway, except in the territories affected by the droughtand extremely warm weather. They have inspectedsamples very thoroughly, and after placing orders haveassured the firms that when the travelers visit themlater they will add to their purchases. More and morethe buyers seem to think that it is desirable to consulttheir help in the matter of open stock dinnerware. Itmay be that this is a good plan. Probably
