English: An incomplete Medieval copper-alloy pin dating to c. AD 1300 - 1400. The pin consists of a crowned head moulded into the pin head, a four banded collar and a cylindrical pin shaft which tapers downwards into an old break. The pin head is broadly cylindrical in shape with a recessed square portion, in which there is a human face moulded into one face and four small evenly spaced upward projecting triangles at the top of the pin head to form a crown.  The face consists of a pair of eyes formed of two simple rectangular shapes, a nose which is U shaped and pointed downwards and a small horizonal incised line for the mouth. The rear of the head is decorated with veritcal incised lines to form hair. The pin head then tapers slightly to a four banded collar with four ridges and grooves. The pin shaft is 4.5 mm thick tapering to 3.5 mm and projects underneath the collar it is cylindrical in section and tapers downwards where it terminates in a worn break. The pin is bent slightly

A similar pin has been recorded on the database as <a href="https://finds.org.uk/database/artefacts/record/id/715911">SUSS-D224AA</a> and is dated to the 14th century. This record discusses these pins as associated pins for Medieval ‘crown headed’ clasps and therefore date approximately to the 14^th century. It’s unclear if this pin is related to a brooch or a buckle, however the style and form of the head on this pin is similar suggesting it is of a similar date.
