\7.m^%A%. 380 TRACKLESS TROLLEYTRACTION Every new invention or new application of energy is born ofnecessity. In their effort to extend their line, electric tractioncompanies have fonnd a need for some means of transportationwhich is cheap and reliable, and which can be used on all kinds ofroadways where traffic is so light that a large outlay of capital isnot justified. This need has been particularly felt in Europeancountries with the result that a new system has been developed towhich has been given the name Trackless Trolley. UNIQUE FEATURES AND ADVANTAGES Trackless Feature. As the name implies, this new system hasno tracks, nor rails, the absence of this characteristic feature of atraction line allowing a certain radius of operation on both sides ofthe trolley wires by which the meeting, overtaking, and passing ofother vehicles are possible. Weight. The cars used are very light because it is not neces-sary to equip them with heavy storage batteries, gasoline motors,or other power
