An installation according to the KoehlerSystem has been recently put in operation in Bremen, Germany, and shows some interesting features. Fig. 12. 392 TRACKLESS TROLLEY TRACTION 13 Trolley Wires. The essential difference between this systemand others lies in the arrangement of the trolley wires, which areone above the other. The negative conductor is on top and 11inches away from the positive conductor. One advantage of thisconstruction is the very simple suspension.

It is obvious that the collector mustbe of entirely different construction from that in any other systemon account of this different arrangement of the wires. Fig. 13shows the general construction. The first essential is, of course, that such a collector be light and at the same time capable of adjust-ing itself to side pulls. Furthermore, as with all the other systems, 393 14 TRACKLESS TROLLEY TRACTION there must be a flexible connection to the car with an automaticdevice by means of which the cable drum is controlled under varyingconditions. The collector itself is a combination of the over-running
