Description
English: In this photograph Royal Air Force mechanics are salvaging parts out of wrecked planes. This scene clearly illustrates the considerable variation in types of plane used during the war. It also acts as a reminder of the huge losses of both aircrew and planes. In the spring of 1917, an average of 50 aircraft were being lost each week.

If the original caption is correct, this photograph was probably taken after April 1918 when the Royal Air Force (RAF) was formed.
