Der Pfeil giebt die Richtung nach dem Kopfe an. a Scapula resp. „Suprascapula", b innere (medianwärts liegende), C^ laterale Lamelle der Knochenscheide, C obere Abtheilung des primären Schulterknorpels, d untere Abtheilung desselben, welche bei f mit ihrem Gegenstück ventralwärts zusammenfliesst, G Gelenkkopf für die Flosse. B—H stellt eine Serie von Querschnitten durch die ventrale Kopf- resp. Rumpfpartie von Protopterus dar, welche vom Kopf her beginnend unter verschiedenen Intervallen caudalwärts fort- schreiten. Bp äussere Haut, M Muskeln, KR Kiemenraum, Te Pericard, Rz Herz, C Pars coracoidea des Schultergürtels, welche von Figur I) an eine knöcherne Scheide erhält. In Figur E besteht sie nur aus Knochen, während in den drei folgenden Figuren auch wieder Knorpelgewebe auftritt (bei G^\ T\ Th Glandula thymus in verschiedenen Portionen an- geordnet, B Darm, WS Wirbelsäule, Kp „Kopfrippe". In Figur H bezeichnet VE den Anfang der Flosse, S Scapula, Gf Gefässe der äusseren Kiemen.
