Presumably an allegory of the ending of the Venetian Republic on 12 May 1797. A figure representing Venice lies dying on a couch, wearing a Doge's hat. A figure representing France leaves by one door wearing a Jacobin cap and holding a sack of money marked "1200 000". A soldier representing Austria enters by a door on the left.
