e all present, excepting15,000 men of the 6th corps who were sure to arrivebefore the day was over. The 1st and nth corps stilloccupied their old positions on Cemetery Hill. The2d was on the left of the 1st. Hays division wason the right, resting on Zieglers grove; Gibbons divisionwas in the centre. Caldwells division extended along thewater-line between Plum Run and Rock Creek. The3d corps was also on the left. The left of the armyrested on the Round Tops, which were farthest to thesouth, the centre on Cemetery Hill and Cemetery Ridge,and the right on Culps Hill. The Orchard hill to thenortheast of the Round Tops was a commanding position,as it would prevent the enemy from making a flank move-ment on the left, but it was weak in other respects, as itwas commanded by Seminary Hill on the north, and bythe Warfield Ridge on the west.
