A fine variety, w^^h white flowers tinged with rose. var. rosea pleno. Has semi-double, rose-colored flowers. var. semi-alba pleuo. Flowers nearly white, semi-double. var. semi-pleuo. Semi-Double-flovtering Japan Quince. A va-riety of the Scarlet, with semi-double flowers. var. uinbelicata. Flowers brilliant rosy red, succeeded by large, showyfruit; forms a large shrub. One of the finest. OAPHXE. Dapliiie. Seidelbast, Ger. Daphne, Fr. D. Mezereuni. Common Mezereon. A native of Northern Europe. A shrubwith small, erect branches, and clusters of pink flowers, in March. The earliestflowerinor shrub we have. 50 cents. DESMODIA. D. penduliflora. A small growing shrub, covered in autumn with a mass ofpea-shaped purple flowers at the end of the new shoots. It has a slight tendency toclimb, and dies to the ground in winter. A desirable fall-blooming shrub.

DEUTZIA CRENATA FLORE PLENO—DOUBLE-FLOWERED;^ DEUTZIA. ORNAMENTAL TREES, SHRUBS, ETC. 71 DEUTZIA. Deutzia. Deutzia, Fr. We are indebted to Japan for this valuable genus of plants. Their hardihood, fine ^abit,luxuriant foliage, and profusion of attractive flowers, render them the most beautiful and de-servedly the most popular of flowering shrubs at the present time. The flowers are producedthe latter part of June in racemes four to six inches long. D. crenata var. flore pleno. Double-flowering Deutzia. Flowersdouble white, tinged with rose. One of the most desirable flowering shrubs in culti-vation. See cut. D. c. var. flore alba pleno. Similar in habit to the preceding, butpure white and double. var. Pride of Kocli-ester. A variety raised by us fromDeutzia crenata flore pleno, and produc-ing large double white flowers; theback of the petals being slightly tingedwith rose. It excels all of the oldersorts in size of flower, length of panicle,profuseness of bloom and vigorous hab-it ;
