nese were the particularobjects of his imitation, and one of his best pictures,a St. James raising a dead person, in the Osser-vanza, at Pavia, is painted much in the style ofPaolo. He also executed some etchings after theVenetian masters, among which are an Adora-tion of the Shepherds, after Tintoretto, and an Adoration of the Magi, after P. Veronese. liedied at Pavia in 1706. SACCHI, Gasparo, of Imola, flourished in theearly part of the 16th century, and painted manypictures in Ravenna and other parts of the Eo-magna. In the sacristy of Castel S. Pietro atImola there is an altar-piece with his name, andthe date 1517; and at Bologna, in S. France6CO-in-Tavola, another dated 1521. SACCHI, Giuseppe, the son of Andrea, paintedportraits and historical subjects in the 17th cen-tury. He was his fathers pupil, and eventuallybecame a friar minor. \Chiesa del I;rate, Levanto ST. GEORGE AND THE DRAGON PAINTERS AND ENGRAVERS. SACCHI, M., (or II Sacchi,) a native of Casale,flourished in the 17th century. He painted in S.Francesco,at Casale, a picture representing a lotteryfor marriage portions, in which a great assemblageof fathers, mothers, and their daughters is intro-duced. At S. Agostino di Casale is a standard,a Virgin and Saints, containing portraits ofseveral princes of the house of Gonzaga, by him. SACCHI, Pier Francesco, (called variouslySacchio, Sacchius, Sacco, and Saccus, Fuancesco,or Pier Francesco, surnamed il Pavese, or Pietroor Pier Francesco di Pavia,) has been wronglyrecorded by Lomuzzo as one of the artists whoflourished at Milan under Francesco Sforza. As amatter of fact, his works were all executed inthe 16th century. The earliest work by him isthe Parting of St. John the Baptist from hisParents, dated 1512, in the oratory of Sta. Mariaat Genoa.
