heBerlin Academy, being appointed professor in1888. He died at Berlin, June 4, 1894. TESCHNER, Alexander, painter, born at Berlinin 1816, began his studies at the Berlin Academyin the atelier of Professor Herbig, and studied laterunder Wach. On the death of the latter he turnedhis attention from historical to religious art, bywhich he soon acquired a reputation. Amongother works he designed cartoons for the choirwindows in Magdeburg Cathedral, and a Magda-len and Christ, for the church of the Magdalen atBreslau. He visited Rome in 1857. His inter-course with Cornelius had an influence upon hisart which is perceptible in his cartoons for windowsin the cathedrals of Stralsund and Aix-la-Chapelle.Other works by him are : Ecce Homo, in thechurch of Perleberg ; Christ and the Four Evange-lists in the church of Teplitz ; Angels in thechurch at Baden-Baden.
