DAERINUER, Joiiann Geoko, an Austrian his-torical painter, was bom at Ried in 1769. Hepainted many altar pictures, and held tho post ofcorrector of the Academy at VienLa, whore hedied in 1809. DAFFINGER, Moniz Miciiaei., a distinguishedminiature painter, who has been called the AustrianIsabcy, waa bom at Vienna in 1790. Whilestudying at the Academy under FUger he showedconsiderable talent for portrait painting, which heimproved at a later period by a study of themanner of Lawrence, wlio visited Vienna duringthe Congress of 1814. Daffinger painted portraitsof the Duke of Reichstadt and many of thenobility of the court of Vienna, ond etched fourplates, one of which was his own portrait. Hedied at Vienna in 1849.
