Crown Rot, Wilt.—Plants sometimes wilt, wither, and die from a rot- ting at the base of the stem caused by a fungus, Phytophthora mega- sperma. The disease occurs on plants which have been overwatered, especially on heavy or poorly drained soil. The best preventive is to avoid overwatering.
