Inflammation of the glands of the ear (parotiditis) appears eitheras a consequence of some mechanical cause, or by infection from the cav-ity of the mouth, from some existing inflammation of that part, as adisease, due to the presence of a micrococcus which develops in the salivain the form of a diplostreptococcus or by direct infection from the blooditself in the form of a diplococcus or from metastasis (septicaemia, pyaemia,or^ in rare instances, distemper).
