Dress, doll's |

Object type | Classification: NM3.13773 | |||||||||||||||||||||||
Description |
English: Dress, doll's, printed cotton with small red and pink pattern on cream ground; totally hand stitched; centre back opening fastening with five metal hooks and hand stitched eyes; high round neck trimmed with fine piping in same fabric and cream cotton lace trim; wide sleeves and sloping shoulderline piped around armhole; lower edge of sleeves trimmed with cotton lace and one row of cotton braid attached in a decorative wavy manner; bodice front gathered in to waist at centre front; full skirt finely cartrige pleated to waist; centre back placket in skirt; two rows of 5mm tucks along lower edge of skirt; the bodice is mounted onto a cream cotton. The style of the dress appears to be of the mid-nineteenth century c.1860. Acquisition notes date it at 1880-1900 and that it was made for a fine quality (German) doll originally in the posession of Agnes Elizabeth Shannon (nee Renton) which has since been sold at auction. The doll probably would have had a set of underwear and accessories as well. |
