Title |
ESS-84B9E6 Post Medieval Finger Ring |
||
Description |
English: Post Medieval (17th to 18th century) copper alloy signet ring with circular bezel. The bezel has the initials R H positioned either side of a symbol, which appears to be a stylised '4' with elongated stem, with two conjoined V's at its base, one upside down over the top of the other. This design is similar to those found on 17th to 18th century cloth seals, as seen in Egan page 183 figure 32 no 241. The ring's loop has been distorted. The bezel has a diameter of 16.40mm and is 2.92mm thick. The loop, in its present condition measures 31.14mm by 22.97mm, and has a circular cross section with a diameter of 2.72mm. It weighs 8.40 grams. The ring has a mid-green patina, with orange-brown showing through where the loop has been damaged. |
