Title |
Early Medieval (Anglo-Saxon) coin: copy of a silver sceat |
||
Description |
English: A contemporary copy of an Early-Medieval (Anglo-Saxon) silver sceat (proto-penny), copying a series BI, type 27b, dating to AD 680-710. Obverse depicting diademed head right in serpent circle. The reverse has a serpent circle (starting at 1 'o clock) enclosing a bird facing right on cross with two annulets in the lower angles, one at the bird's tail and one below its head; the last annulet seems to have another annulet or a traces of a cross attached to its upper edge; reverse legend illegible, three annulets are visible. Unknown mint. Cf. Abramson (1994, p. 66, nos. B100).
