Title
Early Medieval Buckle
Description
English: A Late Early-Medieval/ Early Medieval (Romanesque) copper alloy zoomorphic pin from a buckle, now bent into a right angle at the centre point. It measures 24.29x22.86mm and weighs 1.66g. Unbent, the pin would measure c.43mm.

The shank of the pin is flat in cross-section, becoming a little more rounded to the upper surface as it narrows. It narrows from 3.34x1.81mm to 1.79x1.08mm just before the triangular point.

The head of the pin is in the form of an animal's head with open jaws (from which the shank extends, like a tongue), a prominent brow ridge and ears. The lower jaw is visible on the underside of the head. It stands 4.57mm tall and max.307mm wide. A projection behind the animal head has a 2.09mm diameter piercing close to the end, which also has moulded decoration with a transverse groove, possibly two jaws coming together.
