Description |
English: Fragment of Late Saxon buckle frame, a bar with stubs of the narrow sides and of two wider projections continuing the sides. These latter features cast in the in the form of Borre-style animal heads with ears but no other discernable features and rounded snouts (4.5mm thick). The missing frame was probably D-shaped with a third animal head at the centre of the outside edge. Cf. examples from Bracon Ash, Norfolk (NMS-35B8F3) and Cherwell, Oxfordshire (BERK-0BE984). Width 38mm. Surviving length 14mm. 10th century. |
