Early Medieval Buckle
Description
English: Copper alloy Buckle. Cast D shaped buckle with zoomorphic decoration comprising moulded beast heads biting each end of a round section strap bar. The creatures are of reptilian appearance: their eyes and the ridged top of the snouts are well defined, though less crisply modelled features behind these may represent ears. The frame is also of round section, but is not expanded on its outer edge. Suggested date: Early Medieval, 875-975.

Length: 19.6mm, Height: 24.4mm, Thickness: 5.3mm, Weight: 7.76gms.
