Title
Early Medieval Buckle
Description
English: Copper alloy Buckle. Cast D shaped frame with a thickened outer edge and a narrowed strap bar. A spot of rust adhering to one side may hint at its deposition along with an iron pin (now otherwise lost). A combination of materials is characteristic of Early Anglo-Saxon dress fasteners, albeit copper alloy buckles of the period are not common, while the simple oval form was long lived, and could admit a Middle or Late Saxon/Anglo-Scandinavian date. Suggested date: Early Medieval, 700-1000.
