Title
Early Medieval Cruciform Brooch
Description
English: An incomplete, cast, copper-alloy cruciform brooch of Early-Medieval date. The head plate survives, the remainder of the brooch now missing due to old breaks. The headplate is rectangular in form with a raised central rectangular panel and rectangular wings to either side, both of which are incomplete due to corrosion. At the top of the headplate is a central, integrally cast knob, which is half-round with a flattened and hollow back face. It has a spherical top and transverse collar separated by a narrow neck. On the back face of the headplate there is an integrally cast semi-circular single pin lug surrounded by the corroded remains of the iron pin.
