Early Medieval coin: penny of Offa
Description
English: An early-medieval silver penny of Offa of Mercia (757-796), heavy coinage (c.792-796), mint: London, moneyer: Diola. This is a new type for Diola, comparable with North 321 (see notes below). Ref: Naismith and Naylor 2012, no. 21; North 1994: 89.

Obv: + OFFA between two beaded lines across the field with REX below and M above, the M flanked by groups of three pellets

rev: Moneyers name in lunettes with crosses between the lunetes to each side, the moneyers name is flanked by a cross and group of three pellets in the top lunette and by groups of three pellets in the bottom lunette

rev inscription: + DIO//LA, LA retrograde
