||
Description |
English: Early Roman or Romano British copper alloy Polden Hill type brooch. It shares similarities with type 25 in Hattatt's 'Ancient And Romano-British Brooches' (fig.23b, p.70) and type 900 in 'Hattatt's Visual Catalogue' (fig.159, p.300). A series of short horizontal ridges along the full length of the bow front's apex. The foot, pin, spring, and axis bar are absent. The catchplate is almost complete and extends to just short of halfway up the inside of the bow. Probably dates from c43 to c100 AD.
The length is 42mm, the width is 15mm and the weight 5.17g. Similar brooches on the database include WAW-CB2A55, LEIC-669B25, and LEIC-669B25. |
