Title
Early Roman or Romano British copper alloy trumpet brooch
Description
English:
Early Roman or Romano British copper alloy trumpet brooch dating to between 75 to 175AD. The head has no wings and is sub oval in plan. The spring of 6 turns and the axis bar are present but the pin is absent as is most of the integral head loop. The bow is decorated with three moulded horizontal ribs of varying thickness, continuity and width. These are usually described as stylised acanthus moulding which is lower profile on the reverse of the bow. Below this decoration the bow tapers slightly and is sub-triangular in section. The bow terminates with a triple banded circular foot knop with flat and undecorated base. The reverse of the lower portion of the bow had a catchplate that is now largely lost.

The length is 56mm, the width is 27mm, thickness 17mm, and the weight 13.66g.
