Title
Early medieval : Buckle
Description
English: A complete cast copper alloy buckle frame of early-medieval date. The buckle is D-shaped in plan and circular in section with a narrowed strap bar. The outer edge of the frame is wide and domed with no recess for the pin. The pin no longer remains.

Where the frame meets the strap bar two very crude designs are present. As a common feature in buckles of this period is zoomorphic terminals, it is possible that the moulding on this example represents open-mouthed animals.

The metal is a dark greenish-brown colour and is worn. The buckle is 20.3mm long, 16.1mm wide, 5.9mm thick and weighs 4.8g.
