Summary edit

Description View of the buildings on the east side of Main Street between Mohawk Street and Lafayette Square in downtown Buffalo, New York. A clue to the date of the photograph is the sign for George Metzger's livery stable, which bounced around various locations around the city during the lifespan of the business and was in operation at the rear of the Phoenix Hotel from 1852 through '56. The Phoenix itself was founded in 1816 and remained in operation until 1865, when the whole block was demolished to make way for the Tifft House. The Lafayette Court Building occupies the site today.
Date sometime between 1852 and '56
