Description
English: Creator: Unidentified

Location: Queensland, Australia
Description: Edward Gustavus Campbell Barton, electrical engineer, was born in Melbourne, 11 December 1857. In 1882 he superintended the first commercial electric-lighting system in Britain at Godalming, Surrey. For the next three years he became a consultant in New Zealand and Australia, erecting electrical plant for the Phoenix Gold Mines in Gympie and working for the Australasian Electric Light, Power & Storage Co. In 1886 he was appointed Queensland Government Electrician and completed lighting installations in the parliamentary buildings and the government printing office in Brisbane. He died on 14 June 1942 at Watford, Hertfordshire, England. (Information taken from: Australian dictionary of biography, v. 13, 1993)
