New Haven Freight Locomotives—Geared Locomotive Hauling Long Freight Train East of Stamford, Conn. described in the Electric Railway Journal of Sept. 25, 10,09,is of the articulated truck type with four driving axles and aswiveling pony truck at each end. Each pair of driving wheelsis geared to a 350-hp single-phase motor, mounted on top of ture shaft and engages with a near of 79 teeth. The gear issecured to the circumference of a spider easting, mounted ona hollow shaft or quill 13 in. in outside diameter, which sur-rounds the driving axle with 1 /2 in. clearance space between. 83o ELECTRIC RAILWAY JOURNAL.
