Fig. 117 shows the floor framing and themethod of reinforcing the side and end sills. Fig. 116illustrates the roof framing, and Fig. 115 the complete carframing ready for the side sheathing. About 700 lbs. ofwood is used in the construction of one of these cars.This wood, however, is completely fireproofed before beingemployed. The weight of a car body is 34,000 lbs., the motor truckweighing 12,240 lbs., and the trailer truck 8,400 lbs. Itwas found necessary to use a lining in the walls whichwould deaden sound and resist the transmission of heat.The floors are composed of a triple layer, corrugatedsheet-iron composing the first layer. This is coveredwith a fireproof flooring of a composition material termedMonolith. Ash strips cover this flooring to form agood wearing surface.
