BRIDGE OWUED BY PORTLAND AND SEATTLE RAILWAY AT VANCOUVER. The first large bridge to be operated by slip-ring motors. Energy is supplied for ordinary operation froma 10,000 volt, 3 phase, 33 cycle transmission line. Anemergency set is mounted on the span, consisting of a 125h.p. gasoline engine geared to a 33 cycle generator. -37- ILLINOIS CENTRAL BRIDGE OVER THE MISSOURI RIVER AT OMAHA. Two electrically operated swing spans, each 520 feetlong, are required end to end at this point on account of theshifting tendency of the river. This span was installed in1905 and was the first bridge to be completely interlocked. -35- -35- CENTER COLLECTOR FOR SWIKO BRIDGE.This collector is combined with the span indi-cator switch. The collector uses the two top rings andtransfers the current from the center pier to the bridgespan, This is an example of special design required inequipping movable bridges. -36- TYPE 0? SEABED SWITCH.Switches of this type are used to stop motorsautomatically, to operat
