OU T-DOOR CUL TURE—The Hyacinth will grow well in any good garden soil, but light, rich soil will suit it best, and the bed should be well drained. Planting in the open ground can be done at any time .from the beginning of October on until frost has rendered the soil impenetrable, but the best plan is to plant as soon after the first of October as practicable. Dig your beds thoroughly to the depth of i8 inches, and plant the bulbs from 6 to 8 inches apart and about 4 inches deep. A slight cover of dry litter or short manure may be placed on the beds after the first frost, and should be removed early in spring. CULTURE IN POTS.—Hyacinths may be grown in pots from 4 to 6 inches in diameter. Fill the pots with a light, rich soil, and then press the bulb down into it, and press the soil down around the bulb, to finish the operation. If potted loosely, they will not thrive; if potted TOO firmlv, they will rise up as soon as they begin to grow and be one-sided. After potting they should have a good watering, and be left a day or two until the surface of the soil begins to dry, when they should be placed in a cool, dark cellar. There they may remain for sev- eral weeks, to allow the roots to get a gfood start. If brought to the light gradually and a few at a time, a succession of flowers may be kept up through the winter. CULTURE IN GLASSES.-The culture of Hyacinths in glasses is exceedingly interesting, and the single varieties do remarkably well when grown in this manner. The water should merely be allowed to touch the base of the bulb, and the glasse* should be placed at once in a dark, cool place, until the roots have nearly reached the bottom of the glass, when they may be brought to the light. The water should be changed occasionally. SINGLE BLUE.
