Description
English: Name: Emily Greene

Title: AmeriCorps Environmental Steward

Duty station: Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge

Amount of time worked in public service: 2 months

How much of this at USFWS? 2 months

Female Conservation Hero or Mentor? Why?

Rachel Carson, because with a passion and a pen, she wrote a book that changed the world.

When you began your career, did you ever see yourself working for the USFWS?

Yes, I have always wanted to work with the government enforcing and protecting the environment for future generations.

The mission of the USFWS is “Working with others to conserve, protect and enhance fish, wildlife and plants and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people” How do you contribute to this mission?

I focus heavily on public outreach and education of environmental stewardship.

It takes a special person to dedicate their lives to public service. Why did you choose this path?

Reaching out, educating and interacting with different audiences of all ages is just one of the many ways in which I hope to inspire others to become environmental stewards.

What do you like best about working for the USFWS?

The interactions and many encounters I will continue to have with the public, and sharing knowledge and environmental best practices to ensure that my position among many, is still here for generations to come.
