homestead which has become anhonored landmark of the town of Sims-bury. He continues to operate the farmand keeps a herd of dairy cows, at timesmilking as many as twenty-five. Always interested in public affairs, Mr.Eno has served in numerous positions ofpublic trust. He was for several yearsassessor in Simsbury, and later selectman.In 1890 he went into the internal revenueservice under John I. Hutchinson. Heremained with Mr. Hutchinson until JohnC. Bixby succeeded him as collector, andremained with Mr. Bixby until 1895. In1897 he represented the town of Simsburyin the State Legislature, and served onthe committee on corporations. In 1879he served as messenger for the StateHouse of Representatives. This, ofcourse, was early in his public career.The following year he was defeated forthe position after a spirited contest. Hesei ved as messenger for the Senate in theyears 1881, 1882, (884 and 1885. In 1904Mr. Eno went back into the internal rev-enue service and continued there until .^2

ENCYCLOPEDIA OF BIOGRAPHY 1914. Since that time he has been obligedto relinquish a large share of his publicduties on account of ill health. He livesa retired life on the farm, but is muchsought by his successors in public life forconferences regarding the issues whichdemand the best thought and broadestexperience. Mr. Eno married Martha, daughter ofLucius Goodrich, of Simsbury. LuciusGoodrich was a prominent farmer ofSimsbury. In the Civil War he servedas a provost marshal. He was high sherifffor years, and county commissioner for along term. He was a member of theboard when the present county buildingwas erected. At one time he was a mem-ber of the State Legislature. He died inAugust, 1893. His wife was Martha (En-sign) Goodrich, sister of Ralph Ensign, asketch of whose life appears elsewhere inthis work. Their daughter, Martha, be-came Mrs. Chauncey Hart Eno. Mr. andMrs. Eno are the parents of the followingchildren: 1. Frank H., whose sketch fol-lows. 2. Grace, wife of C. E. Cadwel
