SANGÜESA.—Ventana de una casa del conde Guindulain NAVARRA 495 roñes y quimeras, montados unos sobre otros, churriguerescastenas y otros adornos, asusta al que pasa por debajo, haciéndoletemer el desprendimiento de la monstruosa mole y que le caigaencima vaciada el Arca de Noé. —Muy diferente impresión pro-duce el arruinado palacio del Duque de Granada, cuyo aspectohace deplorar que no subsista de su antigua gala decorativamás que la preciosa reliquia que aquí ves de una fachada quedebió ser una joya de arquitectura gótica del xv (i). Había en la población varios conventos de construcción re-gia : D. Teobaldo II fundó á mediados del siglo xm, esto es, enla época más brillante de la arquitectura ojival, dos, uno deFranciscanos y otro de Dominicos, los dos institutos más útilesy civilizadores de su tiempo. El de San Francisco, cuya iglesiasubsiste abierta al culto, fué cedido al Ayuntamiento, juntamentecon el del Carmen, para establecer en ellos Escuela y Hospital
