Ear-rings : N. A. Bclezza, Rome. of a lio-ht and graceful kind, which can be seen better in the enlarged sectionalview of an end of the cabinet on page 169. All this work is done in color,painted on by hand, and its high artistic excellence adds much to the beautyof the piece. But the chief decorative feature in the whole are the figure-panels in thedoors, already mentioned. Cabinet: Collinson & Lock, London. four figures in the doors of the upper cupboard represent the four evangelists;those below, others eminent in sacred history. They are executed in a free, INDUSTRIAL ART. 169 ■ is&k^s^hb j?^s bold manner, withstrong color-contrastsintroduced, and eachone is worthy of a sep-arate and careful exam-ination. The birds inthe lower panels are bythe same artist, and aredrawn with equal spiritand vigor, but withoutthe same care and in ahastier manner; but thecolor here is perhapseven richer and moreeffective than in thehuman figures. Alto-gether the work is anexceedingly satisfactoryone, and an admirableexample of a correcttaste in design and or-namentation.
