Unlike anyother part of the composition, this picture is painted in sienna-brown on awhite ground, no other colors being used. It represents the interior of apeasants cottage and a group of four figures — the mother with her babesleeping upon her knee, a half-grown lad leaning upon the back of her chair,and a younger boy seated at her feet.
