An ex-cellent featureof the designis the way inwhich the repe-tition of thegroups is ar-ranged, so asto convey aslittle idea aspossible ofsameness, andto make thewhole harmo-nious. A finerunning- vinewith delicatetendrils andsprays of leavesdepending overthe plants be-low gives astraight andwell-definedborder, sepa-rating the figure from the plain portion of the fabric, and making a finish to the whole. A happy blending of realism and fancy is seen in the graceful design inthe panel, a specimen of Wood-Carving, by Professor Frullini, of Florence,illustrated on page 236. The artist seems to have had in view the idea of 240 THE INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION, 1876.
