Pipes are not suitable on account of the impossi-bility of inspecting or cleaning them properly. All wash-waters are alsosent down open gutters to the wash-water-settling house, as they carry globulesof nitro-glycerine. The fall of the gutters should not be less than about 1in 65 : they should be free from sharp turns and from all inequalities in whichnitro-glycerine can lodge.
