PETER PEPPER. 167 CHAPTER IX. Instructs us in the Management of Pigs andother Obstinate Animals, such as StubbornBoys, for instance; to wit, that they must beused without Ceremony. Some months passed away, and Peter con-tinued to evince, by his consistent conduct, thesincerity of his refomiation. Tis true that,once or twice, on a sudden emergency, he didshow some imtabihty; and for this he wasalways really sony ; but obstinacy or stubborn-ness of temper he no longer displayed. Uponthe impulse of the moment, he might becomeangry; but this was less and less frequent,because he was ever striving against his evilpropensities. But continued ill-feeling he couldnot show ; for he was resolute in overcoming thecorruption of his proud heart, so that, wheneverhe had time for reflection, he perceived andfelt the wickedness of an evil temper.
