Title
Figurine of Madonna and Child (front)
Description
English: Small copper alloy Medieval three-dimensional figurine of a seated Madonna and Child. Length 59.5mm, width 26mm and 20mm thick. Weight 73.44g. The rear of the figurine is concave and the concavity increases in width and depth from the top towards the base. Mary who is seated on a throne is crowned and robed. She is facing forward. The bottom edge of the robe is decorated with a series of small closely related lozenge-shaped indentations. It is not clear whether this decoration is intended to represent part of the robe or the base of the throne. The right arm of Mary is resting on her right knee. Mary's left arm is resting on her left knee and holding the seated baby Jesus with the left hand. Jesus is also facing forward with his left arm resting on his left knee and his right arm is raised in benediction. Although the figurine is suffering from bronze disease, small patches of a dark green patina survive.
