This instrument is a very fine example, made by Tebaldo Monzani (1762 - 1839) who worked in London during the first quarter of the 19th century. This flute has raised portions each side of the embouchure hole to aid in directing the breath correctly across the necessarily larger hole. In common with most Monzani flutes each key is stamped with a small crown, hinting at royal favour.
