Description
English:
From crescent to cross, India, ca. 1915
Tinted lantern slide showing a young man, Paulas Mishael, who was once an orphan cared for by Regions Beyond Missionary Union. At the time that the image was taken, Paulas Mischel was a teacher in the day school run by Regions Beyond Missionary Union in Siwan, Bihar. Paulas wears a Western style jacket, a shirt and a dhoti, a length of white cotton worn around the waist by men, most often seen in Indian villages. Paulas leans on a wicker chair. He wears socks and shoes on his feet, and holds a book or tract in his hand. This slide comes from a collection created by missionaries from Regions Beyond Missionary Union, an interdenominational Protestant evangelical mission working in northeast India (Bihar and Orissa) and Nepal.
