this plan is made to> 332 MEDICAL SOCIETIES. form a pouch over the orifice of the ureters.A case is reported illustrated by litho-graphs. Dr. F. F. Maury (America?i Journal ofthe Medical Sciences, July, 1871, p. 154) haspracticed the expedient of elevating theskin of the anterior portion of the scrotumto cover the imperfect bladder. A hole iscut in the base of the scrotal flap throughwhich the penis is thrust. The raw sur-face of the flap is left exposed to the airto heal by granulation. Two cases reportedwere successful. What Wood calls his third method aidedby the elevation of a portion of the scro-tum are probably the best expedients formost cases. In 1858, a very successful operation wasmade by Dr. Daniel Ayers of Brooklyn,N. Y., an account of which is here copiedin some detail from a pamphlet of date1859 and from Virginia Medical Journal,January, 1859. Fig. 1 illustrates the nature of the de-formity, and the plan of the operation. a. The posterior wall of the bladder, Fig. 1.

There was a de-ficiency of the symphysis of the pubes,leaving the mons veneris without its natural MEDICAL SOCIETIES. 333 osseous support, and causing the thighs asshown in the cut, to stand apart in front toan unnatural degree. The patient, 28 years old, had borne achild at maturity; and had become after-wards afflicted with procidentia of theuterus, which appeared externally.
